Columbia/Boone County Health Dept. Garden

Health Dept garden volunteersLocation: 1005 W. Worley
Land provided by: City of Columbia
Maintained by: individual plots for gardeners from all over the city
Garden leader: Linda Lacy

The Unite4Health Community Garden began in 2011 with help from the PedNet Coalition, Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services, the City of Columbia’s Public Works Department, the Columbia Center for Urban Agriculture, the Community Garden Coalition and Boone County Extension.

The garden serves two purposes: education and food production. WIC participants have a plot and the various gardeners, including Health and Human Services employees and neighbors, donate excess produce to the WIC nutrition education class throughout the growing season. This garden also has a cool rainwater collection system. See videos about the garden and its rainbarrels on the City of Columbia’s site.
