World Kitchen Garden Day

On August 28, folks around the world will be celebrating World Kitchen Garden Day, “an annual, decentralized celebration of food produced on a human-scale.” Late August is great time to plan a party and enjoy all those ripe tomatoes and peppers. Get some ideas here for ways to celebrate. And let us know in the comments if you’re planning an event.

The Broadway Christian Church Community Garden is home to a neighborhood garden with gardeners from around the world and a demonstration garden maintained by the Heart of Missouri Master Gardeners. Join community gardeners from Broadway Christian Church and other area community gardens and Master Gardeners for a lively discussion of interesting vegetable varieties and successful gardening techniques.

The Big H – Harmony, Hands, Heart for Columbia

The indubitable ParrotHeads are once again donating part of the proceeds from this annual fundraiser to the Community Garden Coalition. If you have an interest in supporting community gardening and a mere $10-12 in your pocket, consider going to their concert fundraiser April 21, 6-11 p.m. at MoJos.

Scheduled to perform are Steve Meyerhardt, Rocket & Doc, Crazyfish, & Banastre Tarleton. The evening will also benefit True North and Welcome Home (for Veterans). To find out more, watch the video below or visit this link.

Ninth St. Garden Is Full

I just heard today that Ninth St. garden has no more plots available. If you’d like to be put on the waiting list, contact the garden leader, Leslie at leslie.schneider@courts.mo.gov.

If you know of a garden that’s full, please let me know jennymcdo@gmail.com so I can keep this site up-to-date.

St. Joseph Garden Full

Please note, the St. Joseph community garden is all full for this year, with a waiting list. As mentioned in a previous post, the Benton-Stephens garden is also full for 2011 at this point.

There are still plots to be had at other gardens, though, so get your applications in today!

New Community Garden

A brand new community garden is starting next to the Health Department on Worley! On Monday, March 21 at 5:30 pm come to an informational meeting  at the Columbia/Boone County Health Department (1005 West Worley) for people interested in having a garden plot.
